What does the role involve?

The Senior Communications Manager (12 Month Fixed Term Contract) will support key enterprise strategic projects and initiatives by developing and advising on communications approaches to enhance employee and stakeholder engagement. A focus will be to create a stakeholder engagement "centre of excellence" that ensures a coordinated approach to engagement activity across the business as we seek to strengthen stakeholder advocacy for Australia Post’s enterprise strategy.

In this role, it will be critical to lead the enterprise-wide coordination of stakeholder engagement activity in a way that creates stakeholder advocacy; contributes to achieving strategic goals and business objectives; and protects Australia Post’s brand and reputation.  

What are the key responsibilities?

  • Work closely with the GM Corporate Affairs, the Head of External Communications and other senior leaders to develop, and implement the integrated enterprise stakeholder engagement strategy, framework, operating model, governance forums and key enterprise activities that will drive stakeholder advocacy
  • Develop a central stakeholder engagement framework that guides the coordinated approach to stakeholder engagement and communications activities across the enterprise
  • Establish and manage a governance system (including calendars, forums and meetings) for the coordination of enterprise-wide stakeholder engagement
  • Play a driving role in planning and managing our major enterprise-wide stakeholder engagement events and activities
  • Work closely with the wider Communications team and Business Unit teams to influence the communications approach so that all engagement activities and messaging is aligned with our strategic objectives
  • Build productive working relationships within the business – particularly with stakeholder relationship owners within Australia Post
  • Work with stakeholder relationship owners to develop a deep understanding of the particular interests, agendas, issues and opportunities to work collaboratively with each of our stakeholder groups, including amongst government, community, employees, unions, workforce partners (LPOs & Contractors), business and industry stakeholders

What are we looking for?

  • Extensive experience in a similar role within a large complex corporate and/or government environment
  • Tertiary qualification in communications, journalism or a related discipline
  • A track record in the development of stakeholder frameworks and systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of political and regulatory environment
  • Proven understanding of stakeholder and community engagement theory and practice
  • Proven understanding of program management disciplines
  • Proven ability to mediate across multi-functional or multi-discipline teams in order to achieve agreed objectives
  • An ability to juggle competing demands and priorities; and balance strategic and tactical priorities to deliver outcomes
  • Strong networking skills, with the ability to develop and maintain relationships and influence key internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workloads without compromising work quality
