Our Data Science team partners closely with business stakeholders to solve problems using advanced analytical techniques including statistical analysis and machine learning. They produce analytical solutions (models, visualisations, findings) and other interventions that improve decision making and business performance.

What does the role involve?

Reporting to the Data Science Manager, you’ll work closely with business stakeholders to solve problems using advanced analytical techniques. You’ll be capturing operational requirements and delivering analytical solutions that are responsive to the fast pace of operations; improving decision making and business performance. In addition to this, you’ll be responsible for improving the standards and processes for management of information and information assets at Australia Post, and drive the best practice approach for data science development and operations in the organisation.

  • Understands and drives execution of the Enterprise Strategy and provides thought leadership and innovation advice in the data science domain to business and team members.
  • Seeks to improve capability across the organisation in the areas of Information Management, Analytics and Data Science
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with the business to inspire and deliver the commercial value proposition of data and actively manages practices that align our effort to those targeted business areas that most impact strategy
  • Analysing large, multi-dimensional datasets, identifying actionable insights and recommendations using best practice analytical, statistical and machine learning methods.
  • Utilise the latest cloud-based data science platforms and tools, implementing leading data science methodologies that advance the capability, quality, and speed of solutions.


What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics or other quantitative disciplines
  • Experience in building data science solutions using cloud ML toolsets (GCP preferred)
  • Experience with python machine learning frameworks (e.g. Tensorflow, PyTorch, or equivalent) and data science libraries (e.g. pandas, scikit-learn, Matplotlib, NumPy, etc) is preferred
  • Experience with advanced database querying (SQL), analysing, and automation approaches.
  • Experience with code and package management tools such as git, Conda or equivalent.
  • Experience with big data distributed computing frameworks such as Spark, Hadoop, or equivalent.
  • Critical thinking and an enthusiasm for translating data into actions aligned to business objectives
  • Ability in analysing large, multi-dimensional datasets, identifying actionable insights and recommendations
