Our Corporate Lawyers are team contributors within our legal department that provides high quality, commercially focused, independent and trusted legal services to its clients that include a variety of Enterprise parts across Australia Post and our subsidiaries.

As an officer of the Court, you’ll be required to adhere to legal and professional ethical obligations in carrying out the role’s legal advisory functions.

Your success is dependent on using your problem solving skills and legal judgment with a strong understanding of our clients as well as the external commercial, legal and regulatory environment. You’ll think commercially and strategically and generate solutions to assist clients’ initiatives to move forward successfully.

This role will give you the chance to:

  • Provide independent legal advice that is fact based, insightful, strategically focused, commercially relevant, and adds value in the short and long term.
  • Ensures Client BU receives the right legal advice, that:
  • Identifies legal issues and risks in existing business operations and in new business initiatives;
  • Delivers smart commercial solutions that support Client BU to manage its legal risks in accordance with its risk appetite and sound governance practices; and
  • Achieves immediate business objectives and strategic priorities.
  • Delivers legal advice that anticipates the future regulatory and commercial environment and strategic priorities and direction of the Client BU, to provide early warning and enable Client BU to stay ahead of legal developments and emerging trends.
  • Manages litigation and regulatory actions commercially, efficiently and effectively, in the long term legal and commercial interests of the Enterprise.
  • Creative, affirmative and trusted partner to Client BU’s representatives.
  • Promotes corporate ethics and good governance.
  • Protects and enhances our reputation and relationships with key stakeholders (community, customers, shareholder and workforce).
  • Effective management of external legal resources, optimising value and quality of legal service delivery.
  • Drafts and negotiates contracts that achieve business objectives and allocate risk in accordance with Client BU’s risk appetite.
  • Develops, maintains and communicates standard form legal documentation, resources and toolkits.
  • Supports development, implementation and maintenance of training, policies, procedures and compliance programs to promote business understanding of legal rights and obligations and a culture of compliance.
  • Escalation to General Counsel on sensitive matters and significant risks to the Enterprise.

We are looking for individuals with the following experience:

  • Demonstrable experience working as a Corporate Lawyer in the Work Health & Safety space including strong Comcare knowledge and exposure to Employment Law. 
  • At least 5 years post admission experience in general commercial law and/or litigation and experience or exposure to working in-house is desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience managing specialised cases requiring considerable interpretation, knowledge of subject matter, and understanding of business operations.
